Solidarity
Employers who encourage and promote the unionisation of their workforce are acting in solidarity with workers. Employers, managers and business owners who support workers’ rights and trade union organising can show their solidarity by:
- Familiarising themselves with their legal obligations to their workers.
- Where there are shortcomings taking steps to improve conditions, procedures and policies.
- Encouraging their workers to join SALT.
- Offering union recognition.
SALT / BFAWU can provide employers with leaflets and materials that explain who we are and how to join our trade union.

Funding
One of our principal challenges is financially resourcing what SALT does. The monthly dues that members pay to BFAWU ensures they have access to the benefits of full trade union membership (workplace representation, legal advice and support etc) but our branch doesn’t receive direct funding from our parent union.
This means that we have to fundraise in order to resource our organising which includes, strategic planning, member support, campaigning, attending and speaking at key events, movement building, and providing political education.
As a trade union, SALT is not eligible to apply for most charitable grants so we are looking to forge relationships with individuals and organisations who want to support and resource the work we are doing.
